The Lottery (Official Trailer)

The official trailer for THE LOTTERY, in theaters June 11th. In a country where 58% of African American 4th graders are functionally illiterate, The Lottery uncovers the failures of the traditional public school system and reveals that hundreds of thousands of parents attempt to flee the system every year. The Lottery follows four of these families from Harlem and the Bronx who have entered their children in a charter school lottery. Out of thousands of hopefuls, only a small minority will win the chance of a better future. Directed by Madeleine Sackler and shot by award-winning cinematographer Wolfgang Held, The Lottery uncovers a ferocious debate surrounding the education reform movement. Interviews with politicians and educators explain not only the crisis in public education, but also why it is fixable. A call to action to avert a catastrophe in the education of American children, The Lottery makes the case that any child can succeed.

that is bull shit, if a person has family that start’s off lower in society, push back for centuries by racists dicks then there going to live in low income areas where the property taxes don’t create enough revenue for a fair and equal education for all. Its the capitalist system that allows this not a persons lifestyle, more over this country is full of media craving youth who are more interested in what this capitalist system spews out for a distractions.

Sad but airforce2x is right. If a kid everyday is out there hustling he’s true n*gga in the eyes of his peers. But if he speaks educated and wants to learn? he’s a sellout wanna-be-white-in-sh*t. This country as made people want the wrong things. I saw 1st hand how in the same school which had reg and vanguard students it makes a difference. 1 hallway had vanguard the rest of the school had reg. Yet the teachers were better, the students were better and the parents were better. they did cared.

@kaaspeel bad education makes bad parents, bad parents make bad students and on the top of that schools are not the best.

  13. Kendra86 says:

    @airforce2x

I have to disagree. you’re right that it’s not the children, but there is a problem with the system.

  14. Kendra86 says:

This is so sad. All children deserve a great education.

Government is the problem, government schools are filled with failure.

Parents are very quick to blame education systems and schools for their childrens shortcomings. I think way more emphasis should be place on proper parenting. Yes schools and good teachers are very important. But even more important is good parenting and giving a sh#t about your own child. And if you don’t feel educated enough for this, spend some time with a family member or friend who is.

@Naye2Shy nono what he’s talking about is the black person life style. The black people are racist by conveying it. “you gott a be black” as in speaking with poor grammar, have an attitude, and pride. The “black life style” is highly a part of drugs, sex, and gangs.

  19. Naye2Shy says:

@airforce2x im trying to figure out wether or not that was a racist comment….?????

  20. darkknight4785 says:

Charter schools are a joke!! Improve the public schools and increase catholic schools in the inner city. Children should NEVER be in a lottery. Keep schools public and private. Less hassle and less politics.

  23. airforce2x says:

    the problem is
    NOT the parents
    NOT the children
    and NOT the system.

The problem is the LIFESTYLE of black people which deters them from academic progress.
